This is very, very exciting. Yes, even more exciting than yesterday's book discovery! I leave tomorrow for my first fiber festival!!
The New York Fiber Festival takes place this weekend in Rhinebeck, New York. I am orginally from the next county over and actually went to college in Dutchess County, so it's a little like going home. My husband is coming with me on the seven hour drive from Quebec City. He has an old two place convertible so the trip should be romantic and fun. I also think that he wants us to take the small car so that I don't decide to bring home an Alpaca or a goat!
So, what is a fiber festival and why am I so excited? Well, I suppose it's similar to a county fair, except it's all about animal fiber. There will be sheep and llama and Alpaca and rabbits and herding dogs (deep breath) and vendors from all over the country and the stars of the knitting world for book signings. Ouf! They have fabulous workshops too, but I'm not going to those this year. We'll take this one step at a time! There is wine tasting and food tasting. I don't think hubby will be too bored!
Our ten year-old son (who is not happy about us leaving for the weekend) looked incredulously at his father and asked, "How can you possibly want to go and see sheep?" Without pausing, my amazing husband replied, "Because I get to be alone with your mother for a whole weekend!" That's after twenty-three years of marriage! I am a very lucky gal!
So, I have embraced my new Internet life and am, as of today, Tweeting! (To which news the same 10 year-old said, "Dear Lord, I'm loosing my mother to the Internet!" He cracks me up!)
For those of you who would like to visit the fiber festival with me "live", just follow me on Twitter. I don't know how it will go, but I'll do my best! If tweeting is not your thing, I will be taking lots of pictures and will tell you all about the weekend in my posts next week.
Have a great weekend!
